We always knew she was special, but now the world knows it too. Just because Kayci Cook Collins is now the superintendent of Mesa Verde National Park, that doesn’t mean she hasn’t left her mark on the Flagstaff Monuments.
USA Today wrote an article about Kayci in a recent article called, “Growing up, national park leaders didn’t look like her. So she became one.” She talks about being raised in the national parks with her father, both grandfathers and great-grandfather all serving in the parks. Kayci’s blood flows green.
Even though females were not allowed to work for the parks, Kayci speaks of the very important contributions of her mother and grandmother – and all the women who impacted the parks behind the scenes. As she stated, “Although they didn’t wear the uniform, they didn’t get the paycheck, they were very, very much a part of the success of their husbands.”
