Young visitors are often thrilled by the opportunity to earn their badge and become an official Junior Ranger when they visit the monuments. Part of a national program, this activity helps build stewardship among our youngest visitors…and their parents. Upon completion of a booklet of activities and following an oath administered by NPS personnel, they receive a park specific wooden badge,
This popular program requires an estimated 20,000 booklets and badges for the three Flagstaff National Monuments annually. More information about the NPS Junior Ranger program can be found at: Become A Junior Ranger (U.S. National Park Service) (nps.gov).
Due to COVID-19 related closures, one of the park’s non-profit partners, Western National Parks and Monuments Association (WNPA) has seen a catastrophic decline in their revenue. WNPA is responsible for operating the three educational park stores, located in each visitor center. Until WNPA can financially recover (the current projection is approximately two years after the pandemic ends), the Friends hope to fill that void and keep this vital program funded.
