Public Comment Period Extended for Backcountry Management Plan

January 14, 2022

The National Park Service is extending the public comment period on the Draft Backcountry Management Plan and associated environmental assessment (EA) for Wupatki National Monument. The extension will now go through Sunday, January 30, 2022. Coconino & Kaibab NFs revoking fire restrictions Friday

July 16, 2021

Due to monsoonal activity and heavy rainfall across most of the forests, the Coconino and Kaibab National Forests will rescind all fire restrictions as of 6 a.m. Friday, July 16. The Kaibab NF will also lift the Bill Williams Mountain closure.

Flagstaff Area National Monuments Modify Operations based on Coconino National Forest Stage 3 Closure

June 22, 2021

In response to the full Stage 3 closure of Coconino National Forest (Coconino National Forest – News & Events (usda.gov) due to extreme fire danger, the Flagstaff Area National Monuments (Walnut Canyon, Sunset Crater Volcano, and Wupatki) will modify operations as follows as of 8 am Wednesday, June 23, 2021.
