The groundwork for the Friends of Flagstaff National Monuments was laid out around 10 years ago by some incredibly enthusiastic people. And about two years ago some very invested people within the Flagstaff community came together to cultivate the group into what it is now – a rooted, diverse group of people with an appreciation for the region and the monuments that surround it.
In Spring 2013, the Board of Directors for the Friends of Flagstaff National Monuments adopted an action plan, and the board membership has continued to grow.
The Friends of Flagstaff National Monuments work together to support and preserve three local national monuments: Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument, Wupatki National Monument, and Walnut Canyon National Monument.

Our nonprofit support group, Friends of Flagstaff National Monuments, helps the National Park Service to care for the monuments’ spectacular natural and cultural resources and provide opportunities for people to enjoy them.
As you see in the newsletters, our Friends are helping to get the word out about the monuments, interesting activities, new and ongoing research, and the message of support through volunteerism and donations.

Our Mission
The mission of the Friends of Flagstaff National Monuments is to support the preservation of the Wupatki National Monument, Walnut Canyon National Monument, and Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument’s natural and cultural heritage through stewardship, public education, and community engagement.
