Artist in Residence (AiR) Program

The compelling landscapes and physical reminders of past cultures make for an unparalleled opportunity for artists of many genres to produce works that help inspire park visitors to appreciate their parks.

The goal of this program is to allow artists to immerse themselves in those surroundings and produce art that can be shared with visitors and the NPS. If the artist is not local to the Flagstaff area, housing (when available) and associated costs are paid for by the host park.

More information about the NPS AiR program can be found at: Be an Artist-in-Residence – Arts in the Parks (U.S. National Park Service) (nps.gov).

Due to COVID-19 related closures, one of the park’s non-profit partners, Western National Parks and Monuments Association (WNPA) has seen a catastrophic decline in their revenue. WNPA is responsible for operating the three educational park stores, located in each visitor center. Until WNPA can financially recover (the current projection is approximately two years after the pandemic ends), the Friends hope to fill that void and keep this vital program funded.
